Waisale Serevi, a celebrated figure in sevens rugby, is set to join the coaching team for the Fiji Sports Council’s (FSC) Under-20 squad, following a supportive meeting with FSC CEO Gilbert Vakalalabure in Sigatoka. This collaboration, announced by the FSC on their social media platforms, aims to utilize Serevi’s vast experience and passion to nurture young talents in Fijian rugby.

Serevi’s role as a mentor alongside head coach Sireli Bobo and the coaching staff is viewed as crucial, providing the under-20 players with the insights and wisdom of a true rugby maestro. His commitment to the development of the sport will also extend to establishing sports camps focused on athletic development and drug awareness for youths aged 17 to 20.

The FSC Under-20 7s team comprises players selected from various clubs that participated in the FSC U20 7s series. This series was a collaborative effort between the FSC and the Fiji Rugby Union to identify and develop potential representatives for Fiji on local, regional, and international stages.

The team is preparing for a tour in New Zealand, scheduled to depart on January 29. This initiative not only signifies the FSC’s commitment to junior player development but also the promotion of Fijian rugby’s legacy, with Serevi’s guidance being a beacon of hope for future successes.

As the young athletes prepare for this international opportunity, the involvement of a legendary figure like Serevi promises a bright future for the sport in Fiji. This partnership embodies a positive vision, emphasizing the importance of mentorship to shape the next generation of rugby stars.
