Renowned sevens rugby legend Waisale Serevi is set to join the coaching staff of the Fiji Sports Council (FSC) Under-20 sevens squad, as announced by the FSC on their social media platforms. His involvement aims to cultivate young talent and provide mentorship as the team prepares for an international tour to New Zealand scheduled for January 29.

Serevi’s commitment to this initiative was established during a recent meeting with FSC CEO Gilbert Vakalalabure in Sigatoka. This collaboration is seen as a vital opportunity for players to benefit from Serevi’s wealth of experience and passion, as he partners with head coach Sireli Bobo and other coaches to prepare the youth for higher-level competitions.

In addition to his coaching role, Serevi is working alongside the FSC to launch sports camps aimed at athletes aged 17 to 20, emphasizing not only athletic development but also drug awareness for holistic growth. This strategic focus aligns with the FSC’s mission to lay a solid foundation for future Fijian rugby representatives, which stems from the FSC U20 sevens series where players were selected from various clubs across Fiji.

This partnership signifies a hopeful outlook for the future of Fijian rugby, with Serevi’s mentorship expected to inspire and propel the young athletes towards success on both local and international stages. The FSC’s support for nurturing talent demonstrates a commitment to building a rich legacy in Fijian rugby, ensuring that the next generation thrives under the guidance of experienced icons like Serevi.

Overall, the collaboration is a promising step toward fostering growth and excellence in Fijian rugby, reinforcing the importance of mentorship in shaping future sports stars.
