Waisale Serevi, renowned as the King of Sevens, is set to join the coaching team of Sireli Bobo for the Fiji Sports Council (FSC) Under-20 squad on their upcoming tour of New Zealand this month. This exciting development was announced as the team commenced their training camp.

In a statement, the FSC revealed that Serevi, after discussions with acting Chief Executive Officer Gilbert Vakalalabure, has committed to lend his expertise to the under-20 sevens team. Serevi’s involvement is expected to infuse the coaching staff with profound experience, passion, and insight, which is sure to benefit the young athletes.

FSC noted, “The future of Fijian rugby just got even brighter,” emphasizing the positive implications of Serevi’s addition to the coaching staff. The under-20 team was formed following a series of competitions consisting of five tournaments held in Navua, Sigatoka, Savusavu, Rakiraki, and concluding at Suva’s HFC Bank Stadium on November 30.

Sireli Bobo has previously articulated the team’s objective of nurturing talent from grassroots levels, aiming to prepare these young players to excel on larger platforms. The squad is scheduled to depart for New Zealand on January 29.

This collaboration between established legends like Serevi and emerging players bodes well for the future of rugby in Fiji, exemplifying a strong commitment to developing the next generation of athletes.
