Waisale Serevi, the legendary “King of Sevens,” is set to join Sireli Bobo’s coaching team for the Fiji Sports Council (FSC) Under-20 squad, preparing for a tour in New Zealand this month. The FSC announced this exciting news as the team commenced their training camp.
Serevi, widely regarded as one of the best sevens players in history, will lend his expertise to the under-20 sevens squad starting next Monday. This collaboration comes after a meeting with the FSC’s acting Chief Executive Officer, Gilbert Vakalalabure, where Serevi committed to sharing his invaluable experience and insight with the young athletes.
The FSC expressed confidence that Serevi’s involvement will bring tremendous benefits to the players, stating, “The future of Fijian rugby just got even brighter.” The team was selected through the FSC U20 sevens series, which consisted of five legs, commencing in Navua and concluding at the HFC Bank stadium in Suva on November 30.
In a previous discussion, Bobo emphasized the importance of nurturing players from grassroots levels to prepare them for higher-level competitions. The team is scheduled to depart for New Zealand on January 29.
This initiative not only highlights the commitment to developing young rugby talent in Fiji but also strengthens the country’s rugby legacy through mentorship from one of its finest. With Serevi’s guidance, there is great optimism surrounding the potential growth and performance of these young athletes on the international stage.
