The 6th Korea-Pacific Islands Forum Foreign Minister’s Meeting commenced today in Seoul, running from December 8 to 10, 2025. This significant gathering focuses on the theme “Partnerships for a Resilient, Peaceful and Prosperous Pacific,” bringing together foreign ministers from various nations across the region to enhance cooperation with the Republic of Korea.
The event is being co-chaired by Korea’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hyun Cho, and Peter Shanel Agovaka, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade of Solomon Islands. Since its inception in 2011, the Korea-Pacific Islands Foreign Minister’s Meeting has played a critical role in bolstering strategic engagement, enhancing development cooperation, and fostering mutual understanding between Korea and the Pacific Islands.
Priority areas for partnership highlighted in the meeting include climate change and environmental resilience, with a particular emphasis on ocean governance and fisheries, which are central to the cooperation agenda. Additionally, discussions will cover sustainable development and people-to-people exchanges, aiming to build stronger ties among the nations involved.
Prior to the meeting, senior officials gathered on November 25 to finalize arrangements and ensure that the talks reflect a coordinated Pacific approach. Korea has been a valued Dialogue Partner of the Pacific Islands Forum since 1995, demonstrating its commitment to enhancing the region’s resilience and prosperity.
The meeting showcases the enduring significance of this long-standing partnership, with Pacific Islands Forum Secretary General Baron Divavesi Waqa leading a delegation from the Forum Secretariat at this high-level event. The outcomes from this meeting are anticipated to further strengthen the bonds between Korea and the Pacific Islands, fostering a collaborative future.
