The Semo Village temporary bypass along the Queens Highway has officially opened to the public as of midnight on February 19, 2026. This new route is designed to restore traffic flow in the area, following significant disruptions from the recent collapse of the Semo bridge.

The completion of the final construction works earlier this week enables vehicles to safely travel through one of Fiji’s essential transport corridors. The emergency bypass was expedited in response to pressing safety concerns, ensuring that commuters, businesses, and communities that depend on the Queens Highway can maintain access.

The government expressed gratitude to the traveling public for their patience throughout the disruption, as well as to the communities of Semo and Nalele, and the authorities who collaborated effectively to bring this project to a swift conclusion.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution and adhere to all safety signage while navigating the new route. With the reopening of the Semo bypass, the Queens Highway is expected to alleviate travel delays and enhance connectivity between key regions, which is a reassuring development for the local population and businesses alike.
