A family friend of the late Michael Cuvuka, whose body was discovered floating in the Navua River last week, has advocated for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances of his death. According to the Fiji Police Force, Cuvuka’s passing was attributed to drowning, following a night out at a resort.
Mary Benefield expressed her grief and determination for answers in a heartfelt social media post, stating, “Michael, your death has left us with unanswered questions, and as your family, we continue to seek truth and justice.” She requested that the Fiji Police conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the events that transpired between 2 AM and 6 AM on Sunday, December 22, 2024.
Benefield highlighted discrepancies between the police’s initial claim of drowning and the accounts from individuals who were with Cuvuka that night, as well as the evidence the family has observed. “The story remains incomplete and inconclusive,” she noted, emphasizing the family’s need for closure and urging law enforcement to diligently pursue the facts.
She also called on anyone present at the resort that day to come forward and share any information that may assist in clarifying the situation. “It is deeply painful to have to write this on a public platform, but our family cannot rest until we understand what truly happened,” Benefield stated.
