Two security guards charged with the murder of a 29-year-old man have had their bail extended. Semi Tamanivalu, 25, and Leone Matai, 43, appeared before Justice Usaia Ratuvili at the High Court in Suva yesterday. The guards, who were working at a supermarket in Suva, allegedly assaulted the victim under the suspicion of theft. A post-mortem examination indicated that the victim suffered severe injuries from the assault, which ultimately led to his death.

During the court session, state lawyer Simone Seruvatu stated that additional time was needed to provide information and disclosures. The defense attorney for Tamanivalu and Matai did not oppose the prosecution’s request to delay the proceedings for the necessary documentation to be prepared. The two men are scheduled to return to court on October 7 to receive their documents.
