Two security guards facing murder charges in connection with the death of a 29-year-old man have had their bail extended. Semi Tamanivalu, 25, and Leone Matai, 43, appeared before Justice Usaia Ratuvili in the High Court in Suva yesterday. Both men were working as security personnel at a Suva supermarket when they allegedly assaulted the victim on suspicion of theft.
A post-mortem examination indicated that the victim suffered severe injuries from the alleged assault, which ultimately led to his death. Seruvatu requested additional time to prepare and serve necessary information and disclosures. The defense lawyer did not object to the prosecution’s request for an adjournment to gather the accused individuals’ relevant documents.
Tamanivalu and Matai are scheduled to return to court to receive their documentation on October 7.
