Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu has urged school authorities to conduct regular security checks on their properties. This appeal follows an aggravated robbery at a secondary school in Lautoka on Monday.
ACP Driu emphasized the importance of these measures, stating, “Educational institutions are likely targets,” and highlighted the necessity for school management to prioritize security. A 27-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the robbery, during which he reportedly entered a senior official’s office and stole various items.
Lautoka police are currently searching for the suspect’s accomplices as investigations progress. ACP Driu noted that the potential for crime tends to rise during this period, as some individuals may resort to desperate measures to quickly earn money.
He called for heightened vigilance from the public to protect against theft and robberies, especially as many families attend events and social gatherings, leaving their homes unguarded. “This is when criminal elements like to strike,” he added.
