The Matua Programme at Nabua Secondary School, located just outside Suva, is making a remarkable difference in the lives of its students. This initiative primarily targets individuals who have dropped out of school for personal reasons, providing them with a second chance to complete their high school education and regain their footing in life.

Nabua Secondary School stands out as the only institution in Fiji offering this unique opportunity. Since the program began two decades ago, it has served hundreds of adult learners who have successfully completed their secondary education and moved on to pursue higher education.

Recently, over 42 students celebrated their graduation from the programme. One of the graduates, Lusiana Turaga, shared how the initiative has motivated her and her peers to achieve their educational aspirations. Ms. Turaga expressed how the program rekindled her hope for the future and highlighted the diversity of experiences among the students, highlighting the program’s inclusivity.

She emphasized that engaging in this initiative not only fosters social integration for adults but also acknowledges their valuable contributions to society, ensuring they are not overlooked. The program has played a crucial role in helping participants connect with their communities, thereby enhancing their social well-being.

Furthermore, Ms. Turaga pointed out that the Matua Programme has significantly contributed to financial stability and access to essential services, improving the quality of life for students. She believes that the ultimate aim for those involved in the program is to evolve into better versions of themselves.
