Iliavi Masori is thrilled to rejoin the Fiji men’s rugby sevens training squad for a second time, marking a significant milestone in his journey as an athlete. Coming from Toge village in Ba, he is the younger brother of renowned winger and Paris Olympic Games silver medallist Jioji Nasove.
Masori expressed his gratitude, saying, “I never dreamt that I’d be in the national sevens team, and I’m thankful to my family for their immense support.” After playing for the Dominion Brothers Under-21 squad, he made it to the national training team but faced setbacks due to injuries. Now back in training, Masori appreciates this second opportunity, relishing the intense sessions alongside his brother.
Despite previous challenges, Masori remains committed to pushing through, continuing to refine his skills, particularly ahead of the upcoming Dubai Sevens tournament scheduled for November 30 to December 1. “If the opportunity is given, I’ll take it with both hands. I’ll try to improve on my weaknesses on the field,” he stated, demonstrating his determination.
In a broader view, the Fiji men’s sevens team, led by veteran player Suliano Volivoli, is aiming high for the Dubai Sevens tournament. The squad has encountered numerous challenges but remains focused and unified, ready to end their winless streak in the HSBC SVNS. Volivoli noted, “We want to win the Dubai tournament, as it’s been a long time since Fiji has achieved this,” emphasizing the team’s eagerness to succeed. Koilisau, the coach, encourages the players to maintain hope and commit to their training.
In addressing the team’s preparations, Volivoli mentioned their training regimen, which includes blending new and experienced players, suggesting that the squad’s chemistry could be a critical factor in their performance in Dubai.
This story highlights the perseverance and hope within the Fiji men’s rugby sevens team. Masori’s journey underscores the importance of resilience, and as the team gears up for the Dubai tournament, there remains a strong sense of belief that they can achieve their goals, reclaiming their former glory on the international stage.
In summary, both Iliavi Masori’s personal journey and the collective aspirations of the Fiji men’s sevens team showcase the spirit of determination and ambition, suggesting a promising future for these athletes as they approach crucial competitions this season.
