Search Warrant Issued for Former Attorney-General’s Medical Records

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has issued a search warrant to Oceania Hospital PTE LTD to obtain the medical records of former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum. This was disclosed by DPP Senior Counsel Uniasi Ratukalou during a court session this afternoon.

Ratukalou explained that the warrant was issued to acquire documents related to Sayed-Khaiyum’s recent medical examination, including CT scan results, blood tests, and a summary of health assistance, after he had to leave the courtroom unexpectedly for medical reasons last Thursday. It was reported that Sayed-Khaiyum experienced severe chest pains and was taken to the hospital by an aide and his brother, Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

According to Ratukalou, the search warrant was executed at 2 PM yesterday, but the required documentation from Oceania Hospital was not received until 4:15 PM. She subsequently submitted an additional affidavit of evidence.

Defence lawyer Davenesh Sharma raised an objection to the supplementary affidavit presented by the DPP, stating that they had no prior knowledge of the information included.

Both the State and Defence are currently calling witnesses in the bail variation hearing for the former Attorney-General. Earlier this afternoon, Sayed-Khaiyum testified and was under cross-examination by the DPP. The hearing is ongoing before Resident Magistrate Sufia Hamza.
