The search efforts for a missing 5-year-old girl from Naituvatuvavatu village in Wainibuka, Tailevu, are set to continue today. The young girl was swept away by strong currents while crossing the Waisomi River alongside seven other children and her 32-year-old aunt during a trip to gather edible lady fern (ota).

Due to darkness and adverse weather conditions, the search operations were suspended yesterday. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu confirmed that the search will resume today, emphasizing the need for vigilance among parents during the school break. He urged them to prioritize spending quality time with their children instead of attending social gatherings.

This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the importance of child safety, especially in natural environments. Communities can work together to enhance awareness about keeping children safe while engaging in outdoor activities.

The hope remains that the ongoing search efforts will yield positive results and bring the young girl safely back to her family.

Overall, as the search continues, it reflects the community’s dedication and commitment to ensuring the wellbeing of its members.
