Fiji’s President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere has urged all scouts to take part in initiatives aimed at ensuring gender equality across all programs and to extend support to vulnerable groups, especially the elderly.

During the opening of the National Scout Jamboree 2024 at Lawaqa Park, which saw over 2,200 scouts, leaders, and volunteers in attendance, President Katonivere emphasized that scout jamborees serve to build friendships and provide scouts with opportunities to showcase their skills in various activities including cooking, cleaning, knotting, and hiking.

He acknowledged the contributions of scout leaders, many of whom are educators, for their continuous support and mentorship.

“While it is a considerable commitment, as scouts, we have made a promise to strive toward this objective to help our youth grow into responsible citizens in the future,” he stated.
