The Flying Fijians have a chance to host Scotland in a Test match during the July Test matches of next year, as hinted by Scotland’s head coach, Gregor Townsend, in a recent interview. Townsend shared details about the Scottish men’s national rugby team’s summer tour planned for 2025, which is expected to include at least one game in Fiji.

Scotland recently secured a substantial 57-17 victory over Fiji during their Autumn Nations Test Series at Murrayfield, followed by another win against Australia. Despite these matches, facing Fiji on their home turf will be a significant moment for Scotland, marking the first encounter on Fijian soil since 2017.

Townsend explained, “The summer tour that we are organizing is to go to the South Seas. Fiji is definitely one of the games we are looking into, alongside another match possibly in New Zealand or the Islands. Our goal is to potentially organize two Tests.”

In addition, the Flying Fijians are scheduled to prepare for this Test against Scotland with a warm-up match against Australia at Newcastle’s McDonald Jones Stadium on July 6, 2025. This matchup is three weeks ahead of the Wallabies’ series against the British & Irish Lions, adding an exciting buildup to the summer tour.

When asked about the likelihood of a match against the All Blacks, Townsend indicated that any additional games would likely be scheduled for midweek, keeping the specifics open-ended.

Townsend, who was previously an attack coach for the Lions, mentioned that while he hasn’t yet spoken with current Ireland coach Andy Farrell regarding potential collaboration for 2025, his focus remains on the ongoing Six Nations and Scotland’s upcoming challenges, particularly the match against a top-tier team like Fiji.

This upcoming tour provides a positive opportunity for both Fijian and Scottish rugby to enhance their competitive edge and connect with fans in the Pacific region. It offers a platform for emerging talent and reinforces rugby’s spirit of global camaraderie, paving the way for an exhilarating summer of rugby in 2025.
