Scotland’s Dominance: A Nine-Try Showcase Against Fiji

Scotland secured a dominant 59-15 victory over Fiji in their first encounter between the women’s international teams, setting the tone as they defend their WXV 2 title. Despite a slow start where Fiji held the majority of momentum, Scotland quickly took control once they scored.

The Scots opened the scoring with a penalty try and followed it up with two tries from Lisa Thomson, along with others from Chloe Rollie and Lana Skeldon, with Meryl Smith contributing six conversions, leading to a significant lead by halftime.

The second half saw Scotland continue to increase their lead with four more tries, providing them with vital confidence as they prepare for upcoming matches against Italy, Japan, and Australia in South Africa.

Scotland’s first points came after 13 minutes with a penalty try awarded for a stopped maul, resulting in a yellow card for Fiji’s Anasimeci Korovata. A fine run by Francesca McGhie set up Scotland for another try by Thomson, which was converted successfully by Smith. Rollie soon added a third try, extending their lead further.

Fiji managed to score through Adita Milinia after capitalizing on a Scottish error, but Scotland quickly regained momentum. Skeldon scored another try, followed shortly by Malcolm and McGhie, with the latter making a notable impact before being substituted. Lucia Scott, in her second appearance, also got on the scoresheet before Rhona Lloyd completed the scoring for Scotland, with Fiji managing a consolation try through Aviame Veidreyaki.

The final score reflected Scotland’s strong performance, marking a successful start to their campaign.

The match line-ups featured Scotland players including Rollie, Thomson, and Skeldon, while Fiji fielded Tisolo, Milinia, and Lawedrau, among others.
