Scotland’s defense coach Steve Tandy anticipates that the Flying Fijians will adapt their playing style by incorporating more kicking into their game, while also being mindful of their exceptional handling skills and ability to create offloads. Tandy acknowledged that while Fiji’s tactical approach may evolve, their unpredictable and dangerous playmaking remains a significant concern.

“Fiji still poses a threat with offloads and strong plays through the middle,” Tandy remarked. “They’ve definitely added more kicking to their repertoire, making them a multifaceted challenge.”

He emphasized that even when a defense appears to be functioning well, Fiji’s capacity for spontaneous creativity in the game could result in unexpected breakthroughs.

On another note, the return of winger Darcy Graham to the Scotland squad represents a significant morale boost as the team prepares for the Autumn Nations Series. Graham, who has been sidelined due to injuries since Scotland’s last match against Ireland during the 2023 Rugby World Cup, is expected to regain his form over the next four weeks when Scotland faces Fiji, South Africa, Portugal, and Australia at Murrayfield.

Tandy expressed enthusiasm about Graham’s comeback. “It’s fantastic to see him back; he’s been shining at Edinburgh, and his last performance was exceptional,” he said. At just 27 years old, Graham is among Scotland’s top try-scorers, currently sitting in third place with 24 tries, trailing only Duhan van der Merwe and Stuart Hogg.

Despite facing injury struggles over the past two years, Graham is optimistic about making a strong impact in the upcoming match against Fiji on Sunday.

In summary, Tandy recognizes the evolving challenge posed by Fiji’s game strategy while remaining optimistic about Graham’s return. This dynamic creates an intriguing backdrop as Scotland gears up for its upcoming international fixtures. The hopeful return of Graham, a proven performer, along with Tandy’s strategic insights, suggests a promising future for the Scottish side as they navigate these competitive matchups.
