Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, has announced the closure of all schools in the Lau Group due to the devastating effects of Tropical Cyclone Rae. The cyclone has inflicted substantial damage on the region’s infrastructure, prompting the use of many educational facilities as evacuation centers.

While schools in the Northern Division, Lomaiviti, Western, Central Divisions, and Rotuma will remain open, parents are advised to assess their local conditions carefully, especially in areas affected by flooding and other dangers.

Minister Radrodro emphasized that this safety measure underscores the Ministry of Education’s commitment to protecting students during severe weather events. This precaution aligns with the proactive steps taken in response to previous weather disruptions, highlighting the significance of clear communication and preparedness among educational leaders and local authorities.

As the community confronts the difficulties posed by Cyclone Rae, there is an inspiring sense of hope and resilience. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant, support one another, and ensure the safety of students and families during this challenging period.

The importance of preparedness and community solidarity is crucial as families face these trials. There is optimism that conditions will soon improve, enabling students to return to their educational activities and routines.
