All schools in the Lau, Lomaiviti, and Vanua Levu regions will be closed tomorrow due to the approaching Tropical Depression TD09F. This decision was made by Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, after discussions with the National Disaster Risk Management Office. The closure aims to safeguard the well-being of students and staff as forecasts predict strong winds and heavy rainfall.
Currently, Tropical Depression TD09F is located roughly 350 km northeast of Cikobia, with expectations of intensifying as it moves southward toward Fiji. In light of the increasing risks associated with the storm, the Minister has urged parents and guardians to prioritize their children’s safety and take necessary precautions as they navigate this adverse weather.
While schools in the impacted regions will close, facilities outside the Lau Group, Lomaiviti, and Vanua Levu will remain operational. However, parents are encouraged to exercise caution and consider their local conditions when deciding on their children’s attendance, particularly those in flood-prone areas.
School administrators have been directed to stay in touch with their School Management Committees and local authorities for timely updates. The Ministry of Education is dedicated to ensuring that all stakeholders remain informed through press releases and announcements across various media platforms.
As the community faces this weather challenge, it is vital to practice vigilance and solidarity, supporting one another during this time. By implementing safety measures and fostering open lines of communication, there is optimism that students and families will weather the storm with resilience.
