Schools in the Northern Division, Lau Group, and Lomaiviti, excluding Rotuma, will continue to remain closed due to the ongoing impacts of Tropical Cyclone Rae. Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, announced this decision, highlighting the priority of student safety amidst the current adverse weather that is affecting essential services and water supply in the affected regions.

In contrast, schools in the Western and Central Divisions will stay open; however, parents are advised to use their discretion regarding their children’s attendance, considering the safety risks posed by the cyclone. Minister Radrodro also emphasized the need for school leaders to keep in constant touch with their Management Committees and local authorities to remain informed about developments.

This timely precaution reflects the Ministry of Education’s commitment to safeguarding students during severe weather, akin to protocols previously applied during heavy rains and flooding events. The Ministry remains vigilant about weather conditions and will issue updates as needed, showcasing a proactive stance on the safety of students and staff.

During these trying times, the community is reminded of the need for preparedness and solidarity in facing nature’s challenges. With clear communication and effective safety measures, there is optimism that families will weather this situation with resilience and support for one another.
