Schools in the Northern Division, Lau Group, and Lomaiviti will continue to stay closed due to ongoing disruptions in water and essential services alongside the potential dangers posed by Cyclone Rae. Education Minister Aseri Radrodro has stressed the necessity of this measure in response to the adverse weather conditions impacting these areas.
The closures will persist until further notice. In contrast, schools in the Western and Central Divisions will be operational, but parents have been advised to carefully assess the conditions before deciding on school attendance for their children.
Minister Radrodro has encouraged school leaders to keep in close contact with their Management Committees, as well as District and Divisional Officers, to ensure that they receive timely updates. This proactive communication is vital to keeping all involved informed and prepared for any challenges that may arise due to the weather.
This decision reflects the Education Ministry’s ongoing commitment to student safety in the face of severe weather, consistent with actions taken in previous instances of heavy rainfall or other weather-related disruptions.
Communities remain hopeful and are encouraged to work together, demonstrating resilience and cooperation to ensure the safety and well-being of students and their families during these challenging times.
