All educational institutions in the Lau Group, Lomaiviti, and Vanua Levu will be shut down tomorrow in response to severe weather conditions owing to Tropical Depression TD09F. Education Minister Aseri Radrodro made this announcement, explaining that the decision was made in consultation with the National Disaster Risk Management Office.
The school closures aim to safeguard the safety of the students and staff amid forecasts of intense winds and heavy rainfall in the affected areas. Meanwhile, schools that are not within these regions will remain operational, but parents are advised to assess the situation carefully before sending their children, particularly those residing in flood-prone locations.
Minister Radrodro urged parents and guardians to take necessary actions to ensure their children’s safety during this turbulent weather period. He also stressed the significance of maintaining open lines of communication, encouraging school leaders to remain in contact with their School Management Committees, District Officers, and Divisional Officers for timely updates.
This proactive approach demonstrates the government’s dedication to the safety and well-being of students, emphasizing cooperative efforts among educational and disaster management agencies in managing the impact of severe weather. Additionally, the message highlights the importance of community vigilance and preparedness, fostering a spirit of unity and resilience during these challenging conditions.
