Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, has confirmed that all schools in the Lau Group will remain closed today due to the severe impact of Tropical Cyclone Rae. The cyclone has caused significant damage to infrastructure within the region. Many educational facilities have been repurposed as evacuation centers, which has necessitated their closure.

Schools in the Northern Division, Lomaiviti, Western, Central Divisions, and Rotuma are set to operate as usual; however, parents are urged to use their discretion when determining whether to send their children to school, especially in areas experiencing flooding or other hazards.

Minister Radrodro highlighted the essential nature of this precautionary measure, saying it reflects the Ministry of Education’s continued commitment to student safety during adverse weather conditions. This proactive approach is also consistent with previous measures taken during similar weather-related disruptions, emphasizing the importance of communication and preparation among school leaders and local authorities.

As the community manages the challenges presented by Cyclone Rae, there remains a strong sense of hope and resilience. Citizens are encouraged to stay informed and support one another during this difficult time, ensuring the safety and well-being of both students and families.

The importance of readiness and solidarity cannot be overstated as families navigate these hardships, with optimism that conditions will improve soon, allowing students to return to their educational routines.
