All schools in the Lau Group, Lomaiviti, and Vanua Levu will be closed tomorrow due to inclement weather conditions resulting from Tropical Depression TD09F. Education Minister Aseri Radrodro announced this precautionary decision, noting it was made in consultation with the National Disaster Risk Management Office.
The closure, intended to prioritize the safety of students and staff, comes amid warnings of strong winds and heavy rain in these regions. Schools outside the impacted areas will remain open, though parents are encouraged to use their discretion regarding their children’s attendance, especially if they live in flood-prone regions.
Minister Radrodro has called on parents and guardians to take proactive measures for their children’s safety during this adverse weather period. He also emphasized the importance of communication, urging school heads to stay in touch with their School Management Committees, as well as District and Divisional Officers for ongoing updates.
This decision reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of students, highlighting the collaboration among educational authorities and disaster management agencies during severe weather circumstances. Parents and communities are reminded of the importance of staying vigilant and prepared, reinforcing a sense of unity and resilience during challenging times.
