In Namosi, the absence of bus services has left local children dependent on rural service licence (RSL) carriers for their transport to school, according to Monica Saulailai, a mother of three. The RSL carriers, funded by the Government, serve as the primary means for these children to travel to Namosi Catholic Primary School. Ms. Saulailai noted that the children embark on their journey right next to the village hall and disembark at their school.
Adding to the community’s challenges, the Nawaivaka Bridge, an important crossing point for residents, has been rendered unusable due to damage, affecting the ease of movement in the area. Ms. Saulailai expressed hope that the Government would address the issue soon, highlighting the importance of reliable infrastructure.
Despite these challenges, Ms. Saulailai expressed gratitude for the $200 back-to-school assistance provided by the Government, which, while helpful, does not fully cover the expenses of preparing a child for school. She acknowledged the financial strain but remained optimistic as her children were prepared with their school supplies in time for the new academic year, allowing them to start school with eagerness.
This situation underscores the necessity for improved transportation and infrastructure services in rural areas, making it imperative for local authorities to consider long-term solutions. The community’s resilience and gratitude for governmental support reflect a hopeful outlook as families navigate their educational and transportation challenges.
