The Ministry of Education has recognized the severe condition of school infrastructure, which poses significant challenges regarding Occupational Health and Safety (OHS). Education Minister Aseri Radrodro highlighted a concerning incident at Nabua Primary School where students are exposed to an unsafe educational environment.
Radrodro noted that the current issues stem from a building project initiated by previous management, which remains unfinished. “We are working with the new management to determine the best way to complete the construction,” he stated. He also mentioned that if the school requires government support, they should follow the normal protocols to request assistance from the Ministry of Education.
Currently, many classrooms at Nabua Primary School are in poor condition, featuring rusted roofs and open windows large enough for students to escape through. In response to the safety concerns, Agni Deo Singh, the Minister for Employment, Productivity, and Industrial Relations, confirmed that a team assessed the school on November 4. A report was expected to be released the following day.
Despite the urgency surrounding this issue, the ministry has not provided updates regarding the OHS report despite repeated inquiries.
This situation underscores the urgent need for improvements in educational infrastructure, which not only affects student safety but also their learning environment. Addressing these challenges presents an opportunity for the government to enhance educational quality and ensure that students can learn in a safe and conducive environment.
In conclusion, proactive steps could lead to substantial improvements in school infrastructure, fostering a safer and more effective educational experience for students across the region.
