The Ministry of Education has recognized that substandard school facilities are compromising the safety and well-being of students, particularly in terms of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS). Education Minister Aseri Radrodro highlighted a concerning situation at Nabua Primary School, where students are learning in an environment fraught with hazards.

He explained that preliminary findings regarding Nabua indicated problems with a building constructed during a previous administration, which remains unfinished. Radrodro emphasized the need for collaboration with the new management to find effective solutions for completing the building.

Current conditions at the school are alarming, with numerous classrooms featuring corroded roofs and windows that pose safety risks, as they lack proper blades, making it possible for students to fall out.

To address these OHS issues, the Minister of Employment, Productivity, and Industrial Relations, Agni Deo Singh, has taken action by dispatching a team to inspect the school on November 4. A report detailing their findings was anticipated for November 5; however, the ministry has yet to respond to inquiries seeking updates on the OHS report.

In a positive light, the acknowledgment of these issues by both ministries indicates a willingness to improve school infrastructure. The hope is that with collaborative efforts, necessary repairs will be made promptly, ensuring a safe learning environment for all students. The proactive steps being taken could serve as a model for addressing similar issues across the education system, demonstrating a commitment to student safety and well-being.
