The Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations, Agni Deo Singh, has reported that the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) report regarding Nabua Primary School is still pending. A team evaluated the school’s conditions on November 4, and the findings were anticipated to be released the following day. However, despite several follow-ups, action from the Ministry is still awaited.
Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro has also commented on the worsening situation at the school, where students are being subjected to unsafe environments due to unfinished and poorly maintained facilities. Mr. Radrodro explained that the current building issues stem from previous management’s failure to complete the structure.
“We are collaborating with the new management to find the most effective way to finalize the construction,” he noted. He also encouraged the school to formally request government support through the Ministry of Education if necessary.
Concerns are escalating regarding significant structural damage in many classrooms, which include rusted roofs and missing window panes, posing safety risks for the over 900 students attending the school. These unsafe conditions not only jeopardize student safety but may also create potential escape routes for young pupils.
The situation at Nabua Primary School serves as a reflection of the broader challenges faced by public education infrastructure in urban locales. There is a hopeful aspect to consider, as the attention on these issues could lead to much-needed improvements and support for schools in similar predicaments.
By addressing these concerns, the government can take meaningful steps toward enhancing educational environments, ensuring safety and improving the overall quality of education for students.
