School Drug Bust: 3 Students Arrested Among 13

In a recent operation, police apprehended 13 individuals for being in possession of illegal drugs, including three students from two different schools. This concerning incident highlights the ongoing challenges related to drug use among youth.

Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations, Livai Driu, acknowledged the proactive measures taken by a school manager who reported the discovery of smoking devices found in a dining hall, prompting an investigation into the matter. Driu commended teachers for their cooperation in maintaining safety within the school environment, emphasizing that the law would follow its due course.

Among the other arrests, a 33-year-old carpenter and a 47-year-old security guard were detained at the Nadonumai Roadblock after being found with small plastic bags containing white crystals. Additionally, four individuals in Waiyavi, Lautoka, were arrested during a police raid at their residence, where white crystals, smoking devices, and cash deemed to be proceeds from drug sales were uncovered. Other arrests included a mechanic from Waimalika Sabeto, a man from Semo, Sigatoka, a farmer from Navosa, and a young man from Natutu, Ba, all of whom were found with various quantities of substances believed to be illegal drugs.

All suspects are currently in custody, along with the confiscated drugs, which await analysis as investigations move forward.

This incident underscores the importance of vigilance and community involvement in preventing drug-related issues, particularly among the youth. As law enforcement works diligently to address this situation, there remains hope that collaborative efforts from parents, educators, and community members will lead to a safer environment for all.
