The Suva City Council (SCC) has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pacific Polytech (PP), giving skilled-based employees the opportunity to enhance their qualifications through certificates.
SCC’s acting chief executive officer, Tevita Boseiwaqa, stated that the MoU will benefit staff members, with over 200 employees expected to participate. He mentioned that the agreement aims to cover a significant portion of the workforce, emphasizing a commitment to a multi-level and multi-skilled approach.
As part of the collaboration, SCC plans to conduct a training needs analysis to pinpoint specific skill areas that staff members can focus on, with the goal of diversifying their skill sets. Boseiwaqa explained that having a multi-skilled workforce creates a stronger platform for growth compared to a specialization in one area.
PP’s founding director, Peni Taoi, expressed enthusiasm for the new agreement, highlighting that it complements existing MoUs with Labasa and Nasinu Town Councils. He noted that Pacific Polytech focuses on technical training and upskilling to meet emerging opportunities. This signing marks the third MoU established by PP for the council, following agreements with Labasa and Nasinu.
