SCC Staff Set to Level Up Skills with New Partnership!

The Suva City Council (SCC) has taken a significant step to enhance the qualifications of its skilled-based employees by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pacific Polytech (PP).

Tevita Boseiwaqa, the acting chief executive officer of SCC, highlighted that this agreement allows staff members to improve their skills and obtain relevant certifications. He emphasized that a majority of their workforce, over 200 employees, will benefit from this initiative.

“This initiative will support three-quarters of our staff, aligning with our multi-level and multi-skilled approach,” Mr. Boseiwaqa stated. He also mentioned that SCC plans to conduct a training needs analysis to pinpoint specific areas where employees can leverage the MoU.

This analysis aims to identify staffing needs and expose employees to a broader range of skills. “Being multi-skilled provides a stronger foundation for growth compared to specializing in just one area,” he explained.

Peni Taoi, founding director of PP, expressed his enthusiasm for the agreement. He noted that this MoU serves as an extension of similar agreements with Labasa and Nasinu Town Councils, offering employees valuable upskilling opportunities. “Pacific Polytech focuses on technical training and responds to emerging opportunities,” Mr. Taoi added. This agreement marks the third MoU signed by PP for council partnerships.
