The Suva City Council (SCC) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pacific Polytech (PP), providing skilled-based employees the opportunity to enhance their qualifications and earn certificates. Acting chief executive officer Tevita Boseiwaqa highlighted that this agreement will benefit over 200 staff members whose roles require skill development.
Boseiwaqa emphasized that the MoU will cover around three-quarters of the workforce, supporting a multi-level and multi-skills approach. He noted that SCC will conduct a training needs analysis to pinpoint specific areas for utilizing the MoU effectively. This analysis will help identify where staffing needs exist and promote the development of additional skills among employees.
He added that by becoming multi-skilled, employees will have a stronger foundation for growth compared to being specialized in just one area. Peni Taoi, founding director of PP, expressed enthusiasm for the agreement, noting that this MoU adds to previous agreements with Labasa and Nasinu Town Councils, which provide similar benefits.
Taoi mentioned that Pacific Polytech specializes in technical training and upskilling, responding to emerging opportunities in the workforce. This partnership marks the third MoU for Taoi with the council, following the agreements in Labasa and Nasinu.
