The Suva City Council (SCC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pacific Polytech (PP), providing skilled-based employees the opportunity to upgrade and earn certificates. SCC’s acting chief executive officer, Tevita Boseiwaqa, stated that this agreement will enhance the qualifications of their staff, benefiting more than 200 employees who perform skill-based work.
Boseiwaqa noted that the MoU aims to cover three-quarters of the staff, reflecting a multi-level and multi-skilled approach. He emphasized the importance of conducting a training needs analysis to pinpoint specific areas where employees can benefit from the agreement and identify staffing needs. This analysis will help broaden the skill sets of employees, making them more versatile and better positioned for growth.
Peni Taoi, founding director of PP, expressed his enthusiasm for the new partnership, highlighting that it adds to existing MoUs with the Labasa and Nasinu Town Councils that offer similar advantages to their employees. Taoi mentioned that Pacific Polytech focuses on technical areas and provides upskilling opportunities, supporting career development in response to emerging needs. This agreement marks the third MoU established by the council, following those in Labasa and Nasinu.
