SCC Employees Set to Empower Skills Through New MoU with Pacific Polytech

The Suva City Council (SCC) has partnered with Pacific Polytech (PP) to provide skilled-based employees with opportunities to enhance their qualifications through a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Tevita Boseiwaqa, the acting chief executive officer of SCC, emphasized that this initiative will benefit more than 200 staff members engaged in skill-based work. The MoU is expected to cover a significant portion of the workforce, fostering a multi-skilled approach among employees.

Boseiwaqa stated that SCC will conduct a training needs analysis to pinpoint specific areas where staff can take full advantage of the MoU. This analysis aims to identify staffing needs and broaden employees’ skill sets.

He noted that a multi-skilled workforce positions employees for greater growth opportunities compared to those specialized in a single area.

Peni Taoi, founding director of PP, expressed enthusiasm for the agreement, highlighting that it complements similar MoUs with Labasa and Nasinu Town Councils, which also offer similar employee benefits. Taoi stated that Pacific Polytech focuses on technical skill development and upskilling to adapt to emerging opportunities. This marks the third MoU established by Taoi with a council.
