SCC Employees Set to Boost Skills Through New Partnership

The Suva City Council (SCC) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pacific Polytech (PP), providing skilled-based employees the opportunity to earn certificates and enhance their qualifications.

Tevita Boseiwaqa, SCC’s acting chief executive officer, emphasized that the MoU will benefit over 200 employees involved in skill-based work. He stated that this initiative aims to cover three-quarters of the staff, reflecting a multi-level and multi-skilled approach.

SCC will conduct a training needs analysis to pinpoint specific areas where staff can utilize the MoU. This analysis will help identify the skill gaps and enhance staff capabilities, promoting a more versatile workforce. Boseiwaqa noted that having multi-skilled employees creates a stronger platform for their professional growth compared to being specialized in a single area.

PP founding director Peni Taoi expressed enthusiasm about the agreement, highlighting that this MoU adds to similar agreements with Labasa and Nasinu Town Councils, which provide the same benefits to employees. Taoi pointed out that Pacific Polytech focuses on technical training and upskilling to meet emerging opportunities. This marks the third MoU established with SCC, following previous collaborations with other councils.
