The Suva City Council (SCC) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pacific Polytech (PP), providing skilled-based employees the opportunity to enhance their qualifications and earn certificates. Acting Chief Executive Officer Tevita Boseiwaqa announced that this agreement will benefit over 200 staff members engaged in skill-based work.
Boseiwaqa explained that the MoU will cover three-quarters of SCC’s workforce, allowing for a multi-level and multi-skilled approach to training. He indicated that SCC will conduct a training needs analysis to pinpoint specific areas for staff development, ultimately aiming to diversify their skill sets.
“This initiative will strengthen their foundation for growth instead of limiting them to one area of expertise,” he noted.
Peni Taoi, founding director of Pacific Polytech, expressed enthusiasm for the agreement, highlighting that it complements existing MoUs with Labasa and Nasinu Town Councils which offer similar advantages to their employees. Taoi emphasized that Pacific Polytech focuses on technical training and upskilling to meet emerging opportunities. This marks the third MoU for Taoi with local councils, strengthening their commitment to enhance workforce skills.
