Lynda Tabuya, the former Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, has reported to the police following the circulation of an explicit video of her on social media. The Assistant Police Commissioner for Operations, Livai Driu, confirmed that the complaint has been filed at the Totogo Police Station and is currently under investigation by the Cyber Crime Unit.

Ms. Tabuya stated that the video was intended for her husband and has been shared online without her permission. In the wake of these events, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka made the decision to remove Ms. Tabuya from her ministerial position. He emphasized that the decision was not made lightly but was necessary to uphold the standards expected of ministers and to prioritize the best interests of the community. Despite her dismissal, Ms. Tabuya will continue to serve as a member of Parliament.

This situation underscores the ongoing challenges surrounding privacy and consent in the digital age, as well as the complexities faced by public figures regarding personal matters in the public eye. The investigation by the Cyber Crime Unit may serve as a crucial step towards addressing these issues and ensuring the protection of individuals’ rights in the digital sphere.

It is a hopeful reminder that vigilance surrounding such matters leads to accountability, and it may inspire more victims of similar situations to come forward, knowing that there are avenues for redress and support.
