Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu has refuted claims made by former acting deputy commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC), Francis Puleiwai, regarding a break-in at her residence following her resignation from FICAC on September 5, 2024.
In an interview with ABC News, Puleiwai asserted that her home was burglarized and the tyres on her vehicle were damaged after her resignation. However, ACP Driu clarified that a report about the break-in was actually filed in April of this year, prior to the events surrounding her resignation and Barbara Malimali’s subsequent appointment.
“I can confirm that there was a report lodged in April this year and not after her resignation and Barbara Malimali’s appointment,” Driu stated. He also mentioned that some of the items reported stolen have been recovered and returned to her.
Driu expressed his belief that the break-in incident is unrelated to Puleiwai’s resignation or Malimali’s appointment. Additionally, he revealed that police are currently investigating Puleiwai due to a report filed against her at the Totogo Police Station.
