Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has officially removed Lynda Tabuya from her position as Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection in the Coalition Government. This decision comes following the leak of a personal video involving Ms. Tabuya earlier this week, which has attracted considerable media attention.

In a statement, Mr. Rabuka expressed that the move was not taken lightly, emphasizing it was made in the best interest of the public. He confirmed that Sashi Kiran will take over the ministerial role following her formal swearing-in ceremony by the President.

The Prime Minister cited Ms. Tabuya’s conduct and the standards expected from a minister, along with the oath she took upon assuming her role, as contributing factors to his decision. He noted that under Section 92(3)(b) of the Constitution, he has the authority to dismiss her as a minister with immediate effect, which he has chosen to exercise.

This change in leadership serves as a reminder of the high standards expected from public officials, particularly in sensitive positions that deal with vulnerable populations. It also opens a new chapter for the ministry, with Sashi Kiran stepping in to advance the important work of supporting women and children in the community.

In summary, the Prime Minister’s decisive action highlights the importance of personal conduct for those in leadership positions while also ensuring that the ministry continues to function effectively with new leadership. This shift could bring fresh perspectives and approaches to the critical issues facing women and children in society.
