The Fiji Police Force’s Mpaisa Taskforce has recently charged two women for financial deception involving the Mpaisa platform. A 23-year-old woman from Rakiraki is accused of unlawfully obtaining $336 from a public member on January 31 of the previous year. Reports indicate that the funds were mistakenly transferred into her account, and she subsequently withdrew the money despite not being entitled to it. The incident prompted a report to Valelevu Police Station, and the woman remains in custody, set to appear in the Sigatoka Magistrate Court today.

In another case, a 44-year-old caregiver from Lautoka has been charged with obtaining a financial advantage by misusing her husband’s identity. It is alleged that she fraudulently received $250 from another victim last January through a Facebook account she created for her husband without his consent. This account was used to advertise live streaming services that were never provided. The situation was reported at Nabua Police Station, and she too is currently in custody, scheduled to appear in Lautoka Magistrate Court today.

These incidents underscore the growing challenges related to online financial transactions and the potential for fraud via digital platforms. Authorities are encouraging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help combat such deceptive practices.

The prompt actions by the police in these cases not only highlight their commitment to tackling financial fraud but also serve as a reminder for the community to be cautious and aware in the digital age. As the Fiji Police continue their enforcement efforts, there is hope that increased awareness and reporting will help reduce the incidence of such crimes and protect consumers from financial exploitation.

In summary, the Fiji Police are making significant strides in holding individuals accountable for fraudulent activities, reinforcing the importance of vigilance for both individuals and the community at large.
