The Fiji Police Force’s Mpaisa Taskforce has recently charged two individuals for allegedly obtaining financial advantages through deceptive practices.

In the first case, a 23-year-old woman from Rakiraki is accused of wrongfully acquiring $336 from a member of the public via the Mpaisa platform on January 31 of the previous year. Investigations revealed that she withdrew funds that she was not entitled to, having received the money automatically transferred to her account. This incident prompted the victim to report the matter to the Valelevu Police Station. The woman is currently in police custody and will face the Sigatoka Magistrate Court today.

In a separate incident, a 44-year-old caregiver from Lautoka has also been charged with obtaining financial advantage. It is alleged that she dishonestly obtained $250 from a member of the public through the Mpaisa platform last January. She reportedly created a Facebook account for her husband without his knowledge, offering services that were never rendered. The caregiver collected money for live streaming services advertised under her husband’s name without his consent. This matter was reported to the Nabua Police Station, and she too is in police custody, scheduled to appear in the Lautoka Magistrate Court today.

These recent cases highlight the ongoing challenges associated with digital financial transactions and the potential for misuse of online platforms like Mpaisa. Authorities encourage members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help combat fraud.

In summary, the Fiji Police continue to take steps against fraudulent activities related to the Mpaisa platform, holding individuals accountable for their deceptive actions. This commitment to enforcement highlights the importance of protecting the community from financial exploitation.
