The Fiji Police M-PAiSA task force has taken action against two individuals charged with financial deception involving the mobile money transfer app. The suspects, a 29-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman, are believed to have cooperated in executing a rental car scam.
According to reports, on September 17, the duo utilized several Facebook accounts to promote rental cars, instructing potential customers to make payments through the M-PAiSA app. A victim from Nadi, having sent $190 to the listed mobile number for rental services, later found himself unable to reach the perpetrators, realizing he had been scammed. Following this, he promptly reported the incident to the Nadi Police Station.
The accused individuals face charges for Obtaining Financial Advantage By Deception and Dishonestly Dealing with Personal Financial Information. They are set to appear before the Nasinu Magistrates Court today.
