Award-winning Fijian singer and songwriter Rusiate Savuto Harold Vakadewavosa, widely recognized by his stage name Savuto, is renowned for his dynamic fusion of traditional Fijian music and electronic pop. Known as the “Vude Prince,” Savuto reflects on his musical journey, emphasizing how age, experience, and faith have profoundly influenced both his music and personal growth.

Reflecting on his evolution as an artist, Savuto stated, “Age and life with its experience teaches us a lot of lessons that we grow from.” He conveys a newfound confidence, stating that while he recognizes his value, he remains committed to continual learning and sharing through his craft. This quiet confidence has been cultivated over years in a notoriously demanding industry, where he has faced both harsh criticism and celebratory moments. “Music has always been my saving grace,” he said, highlighting his view of music as a calling that has enabled deep self-discovery.

Savuto admits that early in his career, criticism affected him significantly. However, he has learned to manage negativity, focusing instead on constructive feedback. He emphasizes the importance of staying grounded, cherishing the support of close friends and family who remind him of his true self.

His latest album, “Na i Loloma,” released in 2023, represents a pivotal moment in his career. It allowed him to express his genuine artistry after years of catering to public expectations. Savuto shared, “When I first started out, I was doing what most people wanted to hear, but I was not fully expressing my work.” The positive reception of his album two years post-release has further bolstered his excitement for future projects.

Looking ahead, Savuto is developing new music aimed for release in 2027, promising to delve into more intimate storytelling. He described this upcoming project as something he deeply anticipates, saying, “There are so many stories to share,” and plans to fuse fresh sounds with collaborative efforts from producers across the Pacific region, including Hawaii, Papua New Guinea, and Australia.

In spite of his rising fame, Savuto remains devoted to supporting younger musicians. He believes in the power of sharing experiences and encourages these artists to be dedicated and humble. “Music really is all about sharing,” he stated, insisting that helping others navigate the industry is a priority for him.

With gospel influences expected to permeate his new album, Savuto continues to keep faith at the core of his journey, reminding his audience that “Only God Jehovah defines us. Trust Him and you will be fine.” His commitment to authenticity and mentorship not only enriches his music but also nurtures the next generation of artists, assuring listeners that his journey is both a personal and collective one.
