The Savusavu Town Council chairman, Shankar Singh, has expressed concerns regarding the parking meters that were introduced in the town two years ago but are currently not in use. According to Singh, the council is awaiting the government’s gazetting of these parking meters, a necessary step to proceed with their implementation.

In a recent news conference, Singh highlighted that all required documentation has been submitted to the relevant ministry, and they are now depending on that ministry to move forward and present the matter to Parliament for formal approval. He acknowledged that the permanent secretary is making efforts to resolve the situation but emphasized that the ultimate responsibility lies with the ministry.

Singh pointed out that the absence of operational parking meters has exacerbated issues with disorganized parking in Savusavu. He reiterated the importance of having these meters gazetted, stressing the persistent nature of the problem over the past two years. The council believes that addressing this issue is crucial for enhancing the town’s parking management.

This situation serves as a reminder of the challenges local councils face regarding infrastructure implementations. Hopefully, with continued pressure and advocacy from local officials, solutions will be realized soon, improving the overall traffic management and organization in Savusavu. Such advancements could lead to a more structured urban environment benefiting both residents and visitors alike.
