The president of the Savusavu Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Avikash Pillay, is expressing concern over the malfunctioning X-ray machine at the Savusavu sub-divisional hospital. The machine has been out of service for more than two months, and Mr. Pillay is urging the Ministry of Health to take prompt action.

Since July, the X-ray machine was only semi-functional before it broke down completely in October. Patients like Ilisapeci Bola have voiced their frustrations regarding the necessary procedure to obtain X-rays at Zens Medical Centre in Savusavu, highlighting the inconvenience caused by the hospital’s lack of proper facilities.

Local businessman Aren Nunnink inspected the machine and identified that it requires a software upgrade to become operational. He emphasized the urgency of having the equipment functional, especially in emergency situations. Mr. Nunnink has even offered to fund the repairs, with a local engineer reportedly able to resolve the issue in just 30 minutes. However, attempts to reach health authorities have been met with delays due to their unavailability.

An email inquiry was sent to Dr. Jemesa Tudravu, the Permanent Secretary for Health and Medical Services, but no response has been received yet. In the recent 2024-2025 National Budget, finance allocations have been made for health facility upgrades, including provisions for Savusavu’s health center. Despite this, the problem with the X-ray machine remains unresolved.

This situation emphasizes the critical need for proper communication and swift action from health authorities to resolve equipment issues that affect patient care. The involvement of local businesses showcases community support and willingness to help improve health services, which could be a positive step towards enhancing healthcare in the region.

In summary, local businesses in Savusavu are stepping up to address the malfunctioning X-ray machine at the sub-divisional hospital, which has remained out of service for months. With appropriate action from health officials and community involvement, there is hope for a timely resolution to this pressing issue.
