Savusavu, known as a hidden paradise in Fiji, is experiencing substantial growth in its local economy and development. Business operators across the town have noted positive changes over the years, with a particular emphasis on supporting and prioritizing local investors and employment opportunities.

Abdul Shah, the owner of Shah Construction, a prominent property business in Savusavu, has voiced strong support for continuing government initiatives focused on local investment. He highlights the importance of creating job opportunities for residents, asserting that it is essential to not overlook local workers in favor of overseas labor. “We need to ensure our people are engaged and not compelled to seek employment elsewhere,” he stated. Shah’s commitment to local employment is evident, as he has not hired foreign workers for an extended period.

He made a compelling case for the government to protect local investors more effectively, expressing concern that while there are incentives for international investors, local businesses need more support to thrive. “If the government provides tax benefits to foreign entities, we also need similar consideration for local entrepreneurs,” he emphasized.

Shah also pointed to the significance of cash crops like dalo and kava for tourism in Savusavu and expressed hope that continued government support would lead to even greater achievements for the town. This aligns with broader initiatives aimed at enhancing Savusavu’s infrastructure, as highlighted by the recent inauguration of a 1.14-hectare commercial lot at Qaraniqatio. This site is expected to facilitate the creation of approximately 150 new jobs, further energizing the local economy.

The government, represented by Minister Filimoni Vosarogo, has emphasized the necessity of fostering partnerships between public and private sectors to create a conducive environment for growth and employment. Such collaborations are aimed at ensuring development benefits both the community and investors alike.

Overall, local investors like Shah remain optimistic about the future, as they envision Savusavu evolving into a vibrant hub of activity that maximizes the potential of its resources and workforce, contributing to a promising economic landscape for both residents and businesses in the region.
