Avikash Pillay, the president of the Savusavu Chamber of Commerce and Industries, is urging the Ministry of Health to address the malfunctioning X-ray machine at the Savusavu sub-divisional hospital. Mr. Pillay has expressed frustration over the machine being out of service for more than two months, despite partial functionality occurring since July of the previous year.

Local residents are feeling the impact, as patient Ilisapeci Bola highlighted the inconvenience of needing to go to a private facility for X-rays. This hospital serves a large community, including residents from Cakaudrove and the Prime Minister’s village.

Businessman Aren Nunnink, who assessed the situation, discovered that the modern X-ray machine requires a software upgrade. He emphasized the critical need for the machine to function, especially in emergencies. Nunnink even offered to finance the repairs with help from a local engineer, but he has faced obstacles in reaching the appropriate authorities.

Despite an email sent to the Permanent Secretary for Health and Medical Services, Dr. Jemesa Tudravu, requesting an update, there has been no response to date.

In the 2024-2025 National Budget, Finance Minister Biman Prasad has allocated $12 million for various health facility upgrades, including refurbishments for Savusavu Hospital and other local health services. However, the ongoing issue with the X-ray machine highlights the pressing challenges facing the healthcare system in the area.

It’s essential for local authorities to prioritize essential medical equipment repairs, especially as community members and business leaders are willing to assist. This collaboration could go a long way in ensuring that the healthcare needs of the population are met promptly and efficiently.

Summary: The Savusavu sub-divisional hospital’s X-ray machine has been out of order for over two months, prompting local leaders to urge the Ministry of Health for action. A businessman has offered to pay for repairs, highlighting the urgency for functional medical equipment in the community. The 2024-2025 National Budget includes funds for health facility upgrades, yet the X-ray machine issue remains unresolved. The situation calls for effective communication between health authorities and the local community for timely solutions in healthcare services.
