The Fijian Media Association (FMA) and the Pacific Islands News Association (PINA) have officially announced that the 8th Pacific Media Summit is set to take place from September 21 to 25, 2026, in Savusavu, Fiji Islands. The summit will be held under the theme “Reaching the Remote: Media and Digital Innovation for a Connected Blue Pacific,” aiming to unite between 150 to 200 media delegates from across the Pacific, including journalists, editors, media executives, academics, and development partners.

The Pacific Media Summit is a crucial platform for advancing dialogue and collaboration on media development issues relevant to the Blue Pacific. It serves as a vital forum for media professionals to tackle emerging challenges, explore innovative solutions, enhance professional standards, and reinforce the independent media’s role in sustainable development.

PINA President Kalafi Moala emphasized the importance of the upcoming summit, stating that it arrives at a pivotal moment for the region. He noted, “The Pacific Media Summit continues to be our region’s most important platform for strengthening media solidarity and innovation, ensuring that even the most remote communities are connected, informed, and heard.”

FMA General Secretary Stanley Simpson also expressed enthusiasm for hosting the regional gathering in Savusavu, highlighting the opportunity it presents to explore how media and digital innovation can better serve island communities. He said, “We look forward to welcoming our Pacific colleagues to Savusavu as we explore how media and digital innovation can better serve our island communities and advance a truly connected Blue Pacific.”

The previous summit took place in Niue in September 2024, underscoring the importance of rotating the event among various Pacific Island nations to promote inclusive regional participation. The upcoming 2026 Summit will include a variety of activities such as panel discussions, keynote addresses, technical workshops, and networking sessions. Topics will focus on digital transformation, media sustainability, emerging technologies, press freedom, climate reporting, and inclusive storytelling, ensuring that voices from remote island communities are amplified.

More details regarding registration, program highlights, and partnership opportunities are expected to be announced in the forthcoming months, creating anticipation for what promises to be an engaging and impactful event.
