The Ministry of Health and Medical Services is set to enhance the medical capabilities at Savusavu Hospital with the installation of a new X-ray machine scheduled for June. This development comes after patients raised concerns about the hospital’s current X-ray machine being non-functional for two months.
In response to the issue, the ministry announced earlier that their biomedical team is working on necessary software updates and is temporarily deploying a Portable Digital X-ray machine to meet immediate service needs at the hospital. During this transitional period, patients requiring X-rays are being referred to Labasa Hospital or private providers in the Savusavu area.
In addition to the X-ray machine, the ministry is also addressing equipment concerns in the hospital’s Laboratory Unit, particularly with a non-functional Haematology Analyzer. Until the old device is replaced, specimens needed for haematological testing are being sent to Labasa and local private providers, while other essential tests continue to be administered at the laboratory.
The ministry encourages the public to continue seeking medical care at Savusavu Hospital, reaffirming their commitment to restoring full radiology and laboratory services. This proactive approach not only reflects their dedication to community health but also promises improved medical services in the near future.
It is encouraging to see the ministry actively addressing these challenges, which signifies a positive direction for patient care in the region. With the anticipated arrival of new equipment, the hospital will soon be better equipped to meet the health needs of its patients, fostering a greater sense of security within the community.
